Dr. Alex Valm is Associate Professor of Biology at the State University of New York at Albany. He received is PhD from Brown University in the lab of Gary Borisy where he developed CLASI-FISH for imaging the oral microbiome. He then did a postdoc at NIH in the lab Jennifer Lippincott Schwartz. His lab studies the spatial structure and function relationships of the human oral microbiome using advanced fluorescence microscopy, machine learning and transcriptomics applied to in vitro and animal models and ex vivo patient sample.
